The proceeds from the fair are used to support worthy causes & organizations in the Buncombe County, of which Ashville is the county seat.
The Fair is a proud sponsor of quite a few renovations of old & historic buildings, as well as museums in the city. The fair features more than 50 antique dealers, verbal appraisals by some well known personalities in the business, as well as lunches & tea parties. The Vetust Study Club has become an icon for Ashville as a community-oriented organization.
The North Carolina Mountain State Fair also lays claim to bringing the people of the mountain communities together. It provides fun & joy for all young & old with rides, animal shows, plenty of food & some live music.
With an estimated attendance of 175,000 in its 14th year, the state fair is definitely something to visit & enjoy.
The fair is hosted by the Western North Carolina Agricultural Centre & runs for 10 days till around midnight on most days. The Fair features music & dance competitions along with different crafts & live stock related exhibits.
